Back in 2009 the 3.2 inch display of the Galaxy was seen as impressively large. Although, it was not as large as the first generation iPhone, launched the year before, with a 3.5″ screen (diagonally) 320×480 pixel and a resolution at 163 ppi.

The fact that it was a touch screen utilizing the new special features of the modern smart phone made it still a head turner for those who would see it in Samsung and telephone show room windows. The Samsung Galaxy phone was launched on 29 June 2009 as the first Android-powered device from Samsung Mobile.

The first iPhone had been launched, July the year before was revolutionary with its touch screen and operating system designed around this new technology. Samsung endeavored to catch up quickly with a few new twists of their own. Where as iPhone concentrated on high end models, Samsung wanted to create smart phones for all budgets.

After the great impact the new iPhone in 2007, Google began redesigning their own operating system which had been bought for 50 million USD in 2005. The concept of accessing the internet and a new APP market (Android) on a mobile phone with a touch screen, became a large draw to a new generation of customers; the new availability of Google services like Gmail and Google talk could be used on the new Samsung Galaxy smart phone. The Samsung’s GPS system allowed users to utilize Google maps for travel and location.

The user of the phone can give commands, selcting the information processing system by simple finger touches or sweeping movements with a special stylus or one or more finger tips. Samsung continues to improve capacitive displays with thinner and more accurate touch screens. Screens for latest phones are being designed with ‘in-cell’ technology, like Samsung’s Super AMOLED screens;  building capacitors inside the display reduces a layer thus making the display thinner.
